When Thompson plays, whether a resident slot at fabric, Warehouse Project or Extrema in Belgium, you can be sure there will be a crew of heads down the front demanding he shares his track IDs. Most often, those secret weapons are his own expertly produced tunes. Powerful and physical yet never short on groove, they have come on vital labels like Amsterdam’s PIV, Paris’s Kitsuné Musique, and The Martinez Brothers’s Cuttin’ Headz as well as Classic Music Company and Archie Hamilton’s Moscow Records.
Thompson is just as well regarded by DJs as dancers, with Seth Troxler, Jamie Jones and Derrick Carter all big fans. Critically acclaimed ‘Closer’ was made ‘Essential New Tune’ on Radio 1 while on the same station it was named ‘Tune of the Week’ by both Arielle Free and Nick Grimshaw. Next to his always innovative new tunes, Thompson has served up a number of standout DJ mixes for the likes of CircoLoco which continue to win him plenty of new fans.
Now, he is stepping out with his own label Midnight Parade, a natural progression for this artist and one that will give him the chance to release his own music as well as champion other great sounds. It will be a label focussed on house music with that trademark Thompson groove, and a platform for like-minded artists to express themselves freely. The label kicked off with ‘Move Your Body,’ a jackin’ house heater that marries a deep, driving bassline with a delicate vocal and will be followed up by much more in the coming months. Despite so much success so soon, Thompson’s new label will open a new chapter in his career.
