(Warehouse Music)

An artistic soul with a rebellious spirit, Irish born DJ and producer, Cici, is here to vibrate magic. Growing up in Dublin, Cici studied fine arts and dance and explored a deep love for minerals and crystals. Musically she absorbed artists ranging from Bjork to The Smashing Pumpkins and Nine Inch Nails. At 11 she bought her first albums Nirvana (‘Nevermind’) and Daft Punk (‘Homework’), the latter opened the doorways to the world of electronic music. That passion for music has always been there.

After promoting her own parties in Dublin, Cici began DJing in 2009. Fast forward to now, and Cici spends her time between Ibiza and London. In Ibiza she regularly plays the infamous Pikes for Cosmic Pineapple, alongside Josh Wink and Ida Engberg, and The Zoo Project amongst others. In London she has played room one and two at London’s infamous fabric – a lifelong dream realised – and has also played in Berlin, India (playing a Mixmag Lab), Toronto and Iceland – playing alongside Italo Johnson, Mr G, Mr C and Luciano. “I love to play in a more intimate room with wild energy – where you can feel and connect closer with everyone in the space.” A previous show at The Warehouse Project was also one for the books. Cici began to produce in 2015, wanting to delve deeper into her passion and express herself further. She trained in Ableton before moving over to analogue synths and borrowing synths on rotation from friends who produce.
‘Extraneous’ is her first production effort realised – with countless plays already from Jaguar on BBC Radio 1 and she was asked to create a special music of her own productions for the BBC. She regularly plays radio shows in the UK and across Ibiza, having delivered flawless mixes for the likes of Resident Adviser, Lobster Theremin, Circoloco, Rinse FM, fabric, The Cause, Balamii and Noods in Bristol. Alongside her music, she expresses her creativity through art and crystals and is also a budding artist in her own right, having used lockdown as an excuse to go wild with the paints: several of her pieces have already been requested by key dance music tastemakers, and with good reason: her art resonates with the music she makes.
And the labels she loves? Everything from XL Recordings and Ninja Tune to Rekids, Kompakt and Clone: Cici is an electronic tastemaker who also happens to know the history of acid house. In terms of parties, her favourites include Circoloco, Klubnacht and Panorama Bar. Her ultimate collaboration would be with someone she’s always admired and has a similarly creative Ibiza energy: Róisín Murphy. As for her own music in 2021: the releases are coming thick and fast with a special debut EP for Mella Dee’s Warehouse
Music imprint heavily supported at BBC Radio 1 by Jaguar on lead track ‘Extraneous’ as well as the second track ‘Katnip’ by Danny Howard, a wonderfully wonky house mix of Colours In Motion for Man Power’s label Me Me Me similarly supported by Danny Howard again on Radio 1 and a second solo EP on Me Me Me to follow at the end of the summer: make no mistake, this is the year that sonically, physically and digitally, Cici’s musical career
has come to cosmic fruition. And her own creativity looks set to reach new (crystalline) heights as a result.
If you want a taste of where her head is at as a DJ and selector now, look no further than her red-hot DJ mix for Resident Advisor which dropped in July: it spans the BPM range from 130 to 170 BPM and takes in techno and glitch grooves from the likes of Ryan Elliott and ItaloJohnson and closes out with a rousing club jam from Sicknote & Justice. The mix was recorded in her bedroom in Ibiza but you can be sure that she won’t be playing solo in that room for much longer…
